- Q. What is ".dmg" file?
A. It is called as a "disk image". Apples's "Disk Copy" application opens it and mounts as a virtual disk. See Apple's TIL article "About Using Disk Copy Images", the document number 106161 for detail (see the end of this page ).
- Q. When I open the .dmg file, I see it as a scrambled text file.
A. The binding between .dmg file type and "Disk Copy" is lost on your Mac. Open the dmg file with "Disk Copy" manually which is located at /Applications/Utilities. I can't copy the application to /Application folder.
A. You have to have a permission to do that. See your system administrator for detail. If you are sure to have a right access priviledge, it may be related to MacOS X problem. See Apple's TIL article "Applications Folder Locked or Cannot Be Modified", the document number 106609 for detail (see the end of this page ). They have an OS patch program there.
